why is it that we love the ones who ignore us & ignore the ones who love us?

you have three choices:

you can either let it define you,

let it destroy you,

or you can let it strengthen you.

It seems when you want someone, they don't want you.

And when someone wants you, you don't want them.

And when you both want each other,

something has to come around & mess it up.

And all I need to know is that I'm something you'll be missing.

Sometimes it takes a heartbreak to shake us awake

& help us see we are worth so much more

than we were settling for.

Life is too ironic to fully understand.

It takes sadness to know what happiness is,

noise to appreciate silence,

and absence to value presence.

I'd rather be physically hurt than emotionally.

Because you can put a band-aid on your finger,

but you can't put one on your heart.

Love is a temporary madness;

it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.

And when it subsides you have to make a decision.

You have to work out whether your roots have

so entwined together that it is inconceivable

that you should ever part.

Because this is what love is.

Love is not breathlessness, it is not

excitement, it is not the promulgation

of eternal passion. That is just being in love,

which any fool can do. Love itself is

what is left over when being in love has burned

away, and this is both an art & a fortunate accident.

Those that truly love have roots that grow towards
